About The Position

The Assistant Principal assists the principal in providing educational leadership by coordinating and implementing policies and procedures of the School Board, directives of the Superintendent, Regional Superintendent, and Division Heads. This role involves supervising the instructional program, managing budgets and requisitions, evaluating staff, overseeing lesson plans, student scheduling, and the guidance program. The Assistant Principal also confers with students, parents, and teachers, supervises extracurricular activities, assists with teacher orientation, organizes duty schedules, and manages substitute personnel. Additionally, they are responsible for periodic school plant tours and recommendations to the principal, supervising student transportation, attendance, and discipline, and working with central office support personnel. Record maintenance, data processing supervision, and evaluation of test scores are also key functions. The role requires attending department head meetings, functioning as principal in their absence, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or higher with Louisiana Certification in Administration and Supervision on level of assignment (Principalship Certificate).
  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Teaching experience at level assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various groups.
  • Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions from supervisor and must be cognizant of policy and procedures governing discipline and student services in the Jefferson Parish Public School System and their implementation.
  • Must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing.
  • Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener.
  • Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system.
  • Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public.
  • Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information, and provide written report to supervisor.
  • Must have ability to represent school system at various public functions.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to school, work location, and meeting sites.
  • Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.

  • Successful school administrative experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the instructional program.
  • Prepares the instructional materials budget and textbook requisition.
  • Supervises and evaluates teachers, discipline coordinators, counselors, and other staff as designated by the principal.
  • Supervises, collects, and reviews teacher lesson plans.
  • Is responsible for scheduling and leveling of students.
  • Assists in the supervision of the Guidance Program.
  • Confers with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Supervises extra-curricular activities.
  • Assists in orientation of teachers.
  • Organizes and supervises duty schedules.
  • Schedules and supervises substitute personnel.
  • Tours school plant periodically during the day, making subsequent recommendations to the principal.
  • Supervises the transportation of students.
  • Supervises student attendance and discipline.
  • Works with all central office supportive personnel.
  • Supervises the maintenance of personnel and students' records.
  • Supervises all data processing functions.
  • Evaluates the school's standard test scores and other test data to determine the areas of strengths and weaknesses.
  • Attends department head meetings at the school and parish level when possible.
  • Functions in the role of principal in the absence of the principal.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the principal.
