About The Position

The Middle/High Assistant Principal will play a crucial role in supporting the school's mission by overseeing various aspects of school culture, instructional leadership, operations, and community engagement. This position requires a strong understanding of adolescent development, a commitment to fostering an equitable learning environment, and the ability to lead and inspire both students and staff. The Assistant Principal will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, well-being, and academic success of students in grades 6-12.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Valid State Administrative License (e.g., Principal or School Administrator K–12 / 6–12).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level (middle or high school).
  • Clear criminal background check and child abuse clearances (as required by state law).
  • Deep knowledge of both middle school developmental milestones and high school graduation/college readiness requirements.
  • Proven ability to defuse tense situations and mediate conflicts among students, staff, and parents with empathy and fairness.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and active listening skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable educational environment that serves a diverse student population.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a school leadership role (e.g., Dean of Students, Department Chair, Instructional Coach).
  • Experience utilizing school management software (e.g., Progressbook, Public School Works) and data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee student discipline, attendance, and behavior systems for grades 6–12, implementing restorative justice practices and proactive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS).
  • Partner with guidance counselors, social workers, and teachers to support students' social-emotional learning (SEL) and mental health needs.
  • Supervise and coordinate middle and high school student activities, clubs, athletics, and special events (e.g., orientation, graduation).
  • Observe, evaluate, and mentor instructional staff using state-approved evaluation frameworks to improve classroom instruction.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to design and facilitate meaningful professional development aligned with school goals.
  • Ensure smooth vertical alignment of the curriculum, particularly focusing on the crucial transition from 8th to 9th grade.
  • Serve as a key member of the school safety committee, coordinating emergency drills, managing crisis response protocols, and ensuring a secure campus environment.
  • Assist in the development and management of the master schedule, student course registration, and room assignments.
  • Analyze student data (standardized testing, attendance, disciplinary actions) to identify trends and implement continuous improvement plans.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for parents and guardians regarding academic, behavioral, or attendance concerns.
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with community organizations, higher education institutions, and local businesses to enhance student opportunities.
