Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or higher, Doctorate preferred, in educational administration or other applicable discipline.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Principal Certification.
  • At least five years experience in public school administration and supervision, preferred.
  • At least five years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate or acceptable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement programming based on District and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Study and apply the principles and processes of continuous improvement in the school.
  • Program classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  • Supervise the student support program to enhance individual student education and personal development.
  • Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline.
  • Serve as instructional leader and coach to teachers in all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Supervise the school’s teaching process and ensure all teachers are evaluated, at least annually.
  • Supervise the school’s operational staff and ensure all staff are evaluated, at least annually.
  • Plan, organize, and direct implementation of all school activities.
  • Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  • Supervise, monitor, and ensure the implementation of compliant special education programs and student individual program plans.
  • Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs, interpret Board policies and administrative directives, and discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  • Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development, as appropriate.
  • Assume leadership in the direction of the school’s athletic and extra-curricular activities and attend school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  • Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities.
  • Evaluate and counsel all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Participate in principals’ meetings, liaison meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit the school’s budget and monitor expenditures of funds.
  • Develop and participate in a comprehensive program to recognize student attendance, achievement, performance, and improvement.
  • Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  • Conduct staff meetings and employ electronic mail and other devices to keep staff members informed of policy changes, new programs, research, customer concerns, etc.
  • Keep the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent informed of the school’s activities, successes, and challenges.
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Work with District and other building administrators to collectively advance District goals and aims.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
