About The Position

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal demonstrates instructional and school leadership, provides organizational support, evaluates and supervises teachers, and monitors student performance. This role involves assisting in the supervision of instruction, curriculum, assessment, professional development, and student discipline. The Assistant Principal supports the implementation of the STEM/International Baccalaureate Programme and develops systems that foster a positive and well-disciplined school community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in education, including experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in educational leadership at level 5 or above.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional teaching methodologies, principles, and methods for curriculum and training, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of personnel recruitment, selection, training, management, labor relations, and supervision.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies governing charter schools and public education.
  • Knowledge of IBO principles, practices, policies, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of relevant resources and services.
  • Knowledge of academic excellence, operational performance, superior culture, and financial health and growth.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and standardized testing guidelines for the school and state requirements.
  • Knowledge of programs and procedures pertinent to exceptional education students, child and substance abuse, and social adjustment.
  • Skill in effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and coordination of the curriculum using research-based practices, strategies, and interventions.
  • Use appropriate resources and procedures to assess student performance and improve instruction.
  • Assist the principal in conducting an on-going assessment of the educational program, including strengths and areas needing improvement, analysis of test results, attendance records, discipline reports, and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Promote collaborative parent/school/community relations and foster a positive school climate by guiding students and teachers towards increased student achievement.
  • Communicate relevant policies and procedures regarding student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for discipline referrals, detention, and suspensions (in-school and out of school).
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment by conferencing with students, teachers, and parents regarding discipline concerns.
  • Serve as the school testing coordinator and assist the IB Coordinator with the implementation of the PYP and MYP curriculums.
  • Support the Principal in coordinating school staff development based on school and staff needs, leading to academic success for all students.
  • Conduct observations of teachers and staff using TKES, following all related protocols, procedures, and timelines.
  • Serve as building leader in the absence of the Principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
