About The Position

Serve in a student-centered instructional leadership capacity developing and managing year-round educational programming. This includes coordinating day-to-day building operations and supervising and evaluating teaching and transition staff. Assist the Director of Education/Principal of MCJC School in ensuring that the school operates in accordance with the Ohio Department of Education Operating Standards as well as the educational standards of the American Correctional Association and the Ohio Department of Youth Services. Collaborate with state agencies and facility partners to improve student transition outcomes in conjunction with the Transition Coordinator. Coordination of student transcripts. In this position, you are an At-Will Employee serving at the pleasure of the Administrative Judge.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or related field
  • Three years of experience serving students in grades 7-12 who are at risk of school failure including students with disabilities.
  • Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Ohio Department of Education 5-Year Professional Principal Licensure preferred or the ability to obtain an Alternative Principal License within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, manage, coach, train and evaluate teaching and transition staff using the Education Department framework to assist in implementing, supervising and monitoring the instructional programming.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, individual teacher meetings, and participate in the facility Director’s meetings to foster effective communication.
  • Establish annual goals and performance objectives for educational programming within the facility.
  • Interview applicants, check references and make recommendations for hire to the Director/Principal of MCJC School for open positions.
  • Develop and monitor the school’s safety and security plan in concert with the overall facility safety and security program.
  • Monitor and facilitate state testing and assessments for progress monitoring.
  • Enter and approve employee time in the payroll system and approve/manage employee time-off requests.
  • Coordinate building-wide Positive Behavior Supports (PBIS) system.
  • Maintain classroom supplies and coordinate with the Education Director/Principal of MCJC School and local district to order supplies for the appointed facility.
  • Act as the building-level system administrator for the MCJC School established standardized curriculum (Bright Thinker), project-based learning, gym, music and art.
  • Coordinate class coverage in the event of teacher absences; cover classes if needed.
  • Supervise and manage student credit checks and update student transcripts accordingly.
  • Enter and maintain accurate credit history for incoming students.
  • Complete educational intake for incoming students, including but not limited to analyzing transcripts, inputting student course history into the gradebook, records requests, filing of student records, placing students in correct classes, creating a student schedule, assigning, teachers, etc.
  • Supervise and manage end-of-term student progress reports.
  • Maintain an updated student roster in a shared drive.
  • Support staff in addressing student academic and/or behavioral challenges.
  • Interact with medical and/or treatment staff regarding students’ physical and psychological conditions.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to support teaching staff in maintaining positive student discipline whenever appropriate.
  • Support teaching and transition staff with student meetings.
  • Support teachers and transition staff in designing clear, reasonable, and measurable goals addressing student aftercare educational needs.
  • Assist teachers with coordinating student field trips.
  • Ensure teachers maintain accurate and consistent student attendance, academic records, and discipline reports.
  • Communicate daily schedule, schedule changes, and employee absences to the Director of Education/Principal of MCJC School and the facilities staff when necessary.
  • Maintain and model high standards of professional conduct.
  • Complete status reports for other departments or youth teams as requested and/or maintain data sheets accessible to stakeholders.
  • Submit records requests to youth’s home school districts, maintain internal records, and fulfill records requests from stakeholders.
  • Attend various building events/activities.
  • Establish/maintain building leadership team.
  • Participate in various stakeholder group meetings, committee meetings, and/or treatment team meetings to contribute to continuous process improvement efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
