About The Position

The Assistant Principal of Operations (APO) is a key member of the school’s Leadership Team, responsible for leading the implementation and maintenance of clear operational systems while building a data-driven, service-oriented culture. This position is central to the realization of KIPP Texas's mission, enabling the School Leader and Assistant Principals to focus almost exclusively on teaching and learning. The APO will embrace innovation and continuous improvement, be willing to jump into projects, and find ways to work smarter and more efficiently to support instructional staff and leaders.

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of related work experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in operations or education
  • Effective people manager who is energized by developing and coaching others to do their best work while fostering a positive, inclusive team culture
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backwards plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills with an aptitude for shifting from in moment troubleshooting to systems-building
  • Ability to pause and reflect to identify opportunities to improve procedures to make them more effective
  • Sense of humility, customer service mindset, and shows urgency and the ability to proactively solve problems and make decisions quickly
  • Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to upholding high standards of operational excellence
  • Skilled at leveraging communication, understanding of the perspectives of internal and external stakeholders, and collaborative approach to navigate complex and sometimes ambiguous situations in order to get work done
  • Ability to be calm under pressure, especially in difficult conversations with families and staff
  • Desire to continuously learn and evolve as a professional
  • Reliable transportation is needed for travel between campuses
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits, Hires, Onboards, Develops and leads a high-performing team by building a strong and diverse team with an inclusive culture, managing and developing others toward excellence, establishing regular cadences for collaboration, training, and support, and progress monitoring execution of team responsibilities with accountability.
  • Creates and Drives school-based strategies to ensure kids are in seats every day and year over year by partnering with families to set attendance expectations, ensuring accurate daily attendance capture, analyzing data to identify trends and actions to improve results, working with school lead teams to implement attendance procedures, partnering with the recruitment team for student recruitment efforts, and overseeing enrollment, onboarding, verification, and documentation compliance.
  • Designs and continually evolves school-based operations policies and procedures such as arrival and dismissal, implements an ongoing monitoring system for feedback, completes safety drills, audits, and documentation, ensures staff are trained on procedures, and ensures the front office and family-facing systems are organized, welcoming, and responsive.
  • Informs and manages the school budget in partnership with the School Leader by providing insight into non-personnel spending and data, and leveraging district tools for purchasing and account management.
  • Partners with School Support Partners (SSP) to ensure campus is safe and well maintained by serving as the school safety lead, ensuring students and staff have access to curriculum and technology, and partnering with Facilities, Transportation, Child Nutrition, and IT teams to resolve issues.
