About The Position

Sompo is seeking an early-career professional with a strong technical and analytical background to develop and enhance commercial insurance pricing models. The role supports the transition of Excel-based pricing models to the HX Renew web-based pricing platform and the continued enhancement of HX Renew models. The Assistant Pricing Developer works with Pricing Actuaries, Underwriters, and other Pricing Developers across multiple commercial insurance products. Candidates interested in completing actuarial examinations are welcome, though this is not essential. The position is based out of Sompo’s Alpharetta, Georgia office. The role includes model development and maintenance, user-interface support, testing and controls, and Python-based data analysis. The developer collaborates with business stakeholders to translate pricing requirements into model changes, with guidance from experienced developers. The position is intended for a recent graduate or early-career candidate; relevant internships, academic projects, or up to two years of professional experience are welcome but not required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or another quantitative field.
Experience with Python or another programming language through coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional experience.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with technical and non-technical business stakeholders.
Interest in commercial insurance, actuarial pricing, or analytical model development.

Nice To Haves

Relevant internships, academic projects, or up to two years of professional experience are welcome but not required.
Experience with JavaScript is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of SQL, databases, actuarial pricing concepts, or Agile development is beneficial but not required.
Interest in completing actuarial examinations; actuarial examinations are not essential.

Responsibilities

Help migrate Excel models to HX Renew and enhance existing HX Renew models, including calculation logic, model data structures, validations, model configuration, and third-party API integrations.
Support development and maintenance of user-facing HX Renew model components, including basic JavaScript-based custom components, with guidance from experienced developers.
Investigate calculation issues, trace data through model inputs and outputs, and make controlled changes to existing models with guidance from experienced developers.
Develop test cases, reconcile results against approved calculations, investigate discrepancies, and document model changes before release.
Work with Pricing Developers, Actuaries, and Underwriters to understand pricing requirements and translate them into clearly defined model changes.
Use Python and pandas to clean, transform, validate, and analyze insurance data, and work with Excel files and SQL-based data where applicable.
