About The Position

New York Preschool & Kids Club is a premier early childhood education and enrichment program serving modern New York families through our combination of enrichment classes and preschool education. With multiple schools across New York City, NYPKC blends a research-backed, play-based curriculum with a fun and supportive environment, delivering a full family experience for children and parents. We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our mission of giving New York City’s youngest learners a joyful, solid foundation for lifelong learning. In this role, you will be the vital "right hand" in an inclusive, nurturing 2’s, 3’s, or 4’s classroom. You will support the Lead Teacher in implementing the Tools of the Mind Curriculum, helping guide students through a journey of intentional play. You are a co-creator of a culture that fosters inquiry, independence, and social-emotional intelligence.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• 2+ years of experience working with children ages 2–5 in a group setting (preschool, daycare, or enrichment center).
• Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.

Nice To Haves

• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or a related field (or currently enrolled) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Lead Teacher to implement engaging, play-based lessons using the Tools of the Mind Curriculum.
• Help set the stage for curiosity in preschoolers ages 2, 3, or 4.
• Ensure every student’s health and safety is the top priority.
• Help maintain a "safe-to-fail" environment where children feel secure enough to take risks and explore their world.
• Support "the whole child"—physically, cognitively, and emotionally.
• Help children navigate big feelings, social interactions, and daily transitions.
• Build trust with parents and caregivers through daily updates, sharing the successes and challenges of their child’s day, and building a bridge between school and home.
• Function as a seamless team with the Lead Teacher, creating a classroom flow that feels calm, organized, and joyful.
• Actively engage during centers, circle time, and play to ensure students feel supported and seen.
• Take initiative in classroom preparation and transitions, ensuring the environment is always ready for the next "lightbulb" moment.
• Be a steady, helpful presence within the NYPKC community, working collaboratively with the Head of School and other teachers to maintain the highest standards of safety.
