About The Position

At the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, the Assistant Pre-K Teacher supports children’s curiosity, confidence, creativity, and lifelong love of learning. The role helps create a safe, supportive environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, and academically. The teacher works with the lead teacher and other staff to provide quality early childhood education, supervise children, prepare learning activities, and support classroom operations.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old to meet licensing requirements.
Commitment and desire to provide premiere child care services at all levels.

Nice To Haves

Previous child care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Apply principles of quality early childhood education and programming.
Remain actively involved with and supervise children at all times.
Manage staff-to-child ratios within licensing standards and YMCA policies for classroom coverage.
Prepare materials, activities, and the classroom environment as needed or assigned.
Monitor equipment and facilities for safety and security, and promptly follow up on concerns.
Clean and pick up areas used by the program daily.
Work with children with or without special needs.
Observe and assess children and regularly contribute to compiling their portfolios.
Communicate program issues to the lead teacher or director.
Assist the lead teacher with lesson planning as requested.
Cover for the lead teacher when absent and carry out written lesson plans.
Work collaboratively with all staff and assist in other areas as requested.
Report suspected child abuse or neglect as mandated by Kansas and Missouri law, and immediately notify appropriate staff of suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries.
