Assistant Plant Manager - Pallet Manufacturing
About The Position
The Assistant Plant Manager assists in managing total plant operations and delivering superior customer satisfaction by driving results in safety, service, quality, and cost. The role supports plant leadership, including when the Plant Manager is unavailable, and provides hands-on leadership as a working manager. The Assistant Plant Manager works in partnership with the Plant Manager on plant cost and yield performance and supports the overall P&L. The position oversees production employees, production and shipping schedules, plant administration, cost controls, process controls, safety improvements, quality standards, raw-material utilization, and transportation operations. It also supports recruiting, training, and staff development. The work environment may involve heat, cold, elements, air particulates, and location-dependent noise. PPE is required.
Requirements
- At least 3 years in a plant or warehouse supervisory role.
- Expert people-management capability, including management of a non-exempt production workforce.
- Experience managing safety performance and programs.
- Understanding of supply-chain practices and metrics.
- Ability to work in extreme conditions, including elements, heat, cold, and air particulates.
- Ability to repetitively lift up to 50–75 pounds and bend, stoop, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for entire shifts of varying lengths.
- Use required personal protective equipment, including eye protection, safety shoes, and ear protection at several locations.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision.

- Familiarity with private fleet management or transportation.
Responsibilities
- Manage the work of all production employees.
- Oversee production and shipping schedules based on the availability of raw and finished goods.
- Provide hands-on leadership as a working manager.
- Be directly responsible for all employment decisions at the facility.
- Support plant administration to ensure compliance with established policies.
- In consultation with the Plant Manager, be responsible for plant cost and yield performance in partnership with the overall P&L.
- Support and implement cost-control initiatives and process control within the plant.
- Review operations activities, including local transportation activities, to maintain compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws.
- Drive safety improvements across the plant.
- Maintain critical quality and raw-material utilization standards to support customer satisfaction and plant profitability.
- Lead plant staff and effectively motivate, delegate, and monitor their activities.
- Assist with recruiting and train and develop staff.
- Drive efficiencies through transportation scheduling, dispatch, and driver management.
