About The Position

The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. The Assistant P&R Superintendent assists with managing the needs of the Power and Recovery Department under the direction of the Power & Recovery Manager, including the quality of operation, safety, environmental compliance & maintenance of equipment in the Power and Recovery area.

Requirements

  • Degree in pulp and paper science or chemical engineering preferred, operating experience considered.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office and 4 site is desired.
  • Working knowledge of steam and electrical generation, chemical recovery, and wastewater treatment processes desired.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and the ability to lift up to 40lbs.
  • Vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision.
  • This job operates in a production office environment.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, etc.
  • In compliance with the Immigration and Naturalization Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.

  • Assists with Budget Development & Administration.
  • Assists with Action Plans for Goal achievement.
  • Assists with Coordinating P&R Operations to meet mill demands.
  • Assists with Environmental compliance.
  • Assists with Power contract negotiations.
  • Assists with Trouble shooting production problems.
  • Assists with Power and Recovery contracts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
