About The Position

The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a full time Faculty in the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences. The primary responsibility of the Faculty will be teaching preclinical and clinical aspects of dental prosthetic fabrication in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Science. This will involve digital design and fabrication of various dental prostheses, including ceramic fixed prostheses, digital complete dentures, and more. The faculty will utilize digital CAD designing, CAM milling, sintering, and characterizing fixed prosthetics for the predoctoral restorative, removable, and implant prosthodontic clinics. The job will also include fabricating in-house prostheses, ranging from single restorative units to complex implant-supported prostheses. Additionally, the role involves utilizing 3D printing for the department's printing needs and assisting other departments on campus, such as graduate programs in digital dentistry, AEGD, orthodontics, research, periodontics, and oral maxillofacial surgery. Consultative services related to 3D printing will also be provided to other colleges and institutes on campus, such as the Bioengineering group and the Zucker Institute of Applied Neuroscience. The individual will be involved in advanced level research using complex printing and milling laboratory equipment. They will be responsible for evaluating the trueness and precision of printed parts following ISO standard 5725. The faculty member will supervise and train dental students in CAD/CAM laboratory work for both removable and fixed restorations. This includes 3D metal printing of partial denture frameworks, resin printing, and milling of complete dentures. Moreover, the individual will be responsible for directing the operation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex laboratory equipment, such as selective laser fusion metal printers, Digital Light Projector resin printers, and 5 and 3-axis milling systems.

Requirements

  • Full-time Faculty position.
  • Rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • DMD or DDS equivalent degree.
  • Proficiency in laboratory prosthetic fabrication, including milling lithium disilicate, zirconia, resins, and acrylics on various milling systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in digital design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of various dental removable and fixed prosthetics.
  • Strong knowledge of dental science, anatomy, and principles of esthetics, with a special emphasis on the oral facial complex.
  • Proficiency with 3Shape and Exocad software packages.
  • Comfortable with smile design using 3D smile design software in Exocad and 3Shape, including working with 3D face scans.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in dental implant planning software and surgical guide fabrication.
  • Competency in milling using a variety of milling machines and 3D printing on various resin printers.
  • Competency in finishing and sintering Zirconia restorations.
