About The Position

The Texas A&M University College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) is seeking an innovative scholar, creative researcher, and educator for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track or tenure review upon hire faculty position in Technical Arts. This role, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, focuses on the interdisciplinary field of Technical Arts, which bridges creative practice, computational systems, emerging media technologies, and digital production methodologies. The successful candidate will contribute to new knowledge, creative inquiry, and technological innovation at the intersection of art, design, performance, computation, and media. The position requires a strong potential for scholarly and/or creative achievement and the ability to establish a recognized research agenda. Areas of expertise can include technical arts, visualization, computational media, virtual production, simulation, digital performance, interactive systems, immersive media, AI and creative practice, procedural systems, computational storytelling, digital fabrication, creative technologies, human-computer interaction, media systems, or related emerging fields. The role involves maintaining an active research and/or creative scholarship program, pursuing external funding, disseminating work through various outcomes, and enhancing the College's national and international visibility. Faculty responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, serving on committees, curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service activities. The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new entity within the Texas A&M University System, emphasizing faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work. It aims to develop innovative research, creative works, and degree offerings by merging art and science with traditional fields. Faculty have access to resources like a virtual production stage through the Virtual Production Institute. Texas A&M University is a Carnegie R1 institution with significant opportunities for research, funding, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A, or equivalent) in Technical Arts, Visualization, Digital Media, Interactive Media, Computational Arts, Computer Graphics, Media Arts, Design, Performance Technology, Creative Technologies, or a closely related field.
  • Candidates who have completed all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation (ABD) will be considered provided they demonstrate clear progress toward completion.
  • Evidence of an emerging or established program of scholarly and/or creative activity.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring students.
  • Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research, creative scholarship, and collaboration.

  • Record of scholarly publications, juried exhibitions, performances, funded projects, patents, software systems, or other recognized research and creative outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring graduate students and participating in graduate education.
  • Evidence of successful interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Experience contributing to innovative curriculum development in emerging media and technical arts disciplines.
