The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami invites applications for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor position specializing in Forensic Anthropology, beginning August 15, 2027. The department seeks a colleague with a holistic, four-field approach to anthropological inquiry, whose ethically informed, interdisciplinary research advances collaboration with international colleagues to address violence, health and death disparities, and criminal justice. Research geography, theory, and specialty are open; areas may include skeletal biology, evolutionary biology, DNA analysis, digital and AI technologies, functional morphology, mass disaster identification, international human rights investigation, and ethical skeletal remains processing and curation. The successful applicant will have an established record of original research, funding, teaching, and publication, and a clear framework for continued progress in these areas. The candidate should have or develop partnerships with local communities and forensic, government, and law-enforcement agencies in South Florida. Teaching duties include two courses per semester at introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate levels. The candidate should be able to teach forensic anthropology, introductory biological anthropology, and human osteology, and contribute to the Master’s program in the Professional Practice of Anthropology. The candidate will develop additional classes, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, supervise student research, contribute to undergraduate and graduate curricula, and ideally commit to teaching a field school. Other duties include departmental and university-level service on committees and working groups as directed by the Chair. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field in hand by the position’s start date. Certification as a diplomate in the American Board of Forensic Anthropology (DABFA) is preferred. Applications will be reviewed beginning immediately and accepted until November 30, 2026, or until a suitable candidate is found. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, letter of interest, brief future research plans, teaching philosophy, and names and contact information for at least three references in a single PDF through the UM Faculty Careers website.
