About The Position

The Department of Brain Health in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track) for a 12-month appointment. This physician-scientist role focuses on clinical trials research in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, conducting, and overseeing clinical trials and translational research, collaborating with industry-sponsored clinical trial organizations on biomarker, diagnostic, and therapeutic trials. The position also involves mentoring graduate students in the Neuroscience Ph.D. program and teaching in the medical school. Faculty members are expected to meet university criteria for research, teaching, and service, secure extramural grant support, and publish in high-impact journals. The department's strengths include a Clinical Trials Observatory, a Brain Health and Biomarker Laboratory, fluid biomarker discovery, research on neurodegenerative disorder risk and resilience in diverse groups, and nanomaterial applications for stroke treatment. The role will be central to advancing collaborations with leading clinical trial organizations.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an LCME- or COCA-accredited institution.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Nevada and ability to practice medicine in the State of Nevada.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in a relevant specialty (e.g., Neurology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, or a related field).
  • Experience conducting or overseeing clinical trials, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Eligibility for malpractice insurance coverage through UNLV Health or an equivalent institutional mechanism.
  • Must obtain medical licensure and malpractice insurance coverage prior to the start of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and oversee clinical trials and translational research within the Department of Brain Health.
  • Work closely with industry-sponsored clinical trial organizations to conduct biomarker, diagnostic, and therapeutic clinical trials in central nervous system diseases.
  • Play a central role in advancing collaborations with leading clinical trial organizations.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students in the UNLV Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Ph.D. program.
  • Teach in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
  • Meet University criteria related to research, teaching, and service.
  • Secure extramural grant support.
  • Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide a minimum of .2 FTE for clinical activities, including attending duties in clinics at UNLV Health.
