This role supports the manager with the day-to-day operations of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) department. The Assistant Nurse Manager assists with infection prevention initiatives, surveillance, education, and regulatory compliance for designated areas of the organization. This position contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the annual infection prevention plan and program to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities. The role involves mentoring, coaching, and supervising infection preventionists and other staff as delegated. Collaboration with the IP manager and other hospital leaders is key to implementing evidence-based infection control practices. The Assistant Nurse Manager manages specific projects or focus areas as assigned and assumes full managerial responsibilities during the manager’s absence, including leading the infection prevention team, liaising with hospital leadership, and managing outbreak responses. This role also provides input and feedback on employee performance evaluations, participates in the interview process, and supports the disciplinary process. The Assistant Nurse Manager oversees and directs team members in daily operations and project implementation, and provides guidance to other hospital departments in the manager’s absence. In the manager’s absence, this role maintains 24-hour accountability, is on-call, and is designated as essential personnel critical to the continuity of healthcare operations, ensuring timely infection control guidance and rapid response to potential infection risks.
