About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for training, leading, and supervising nursing and patient care assistant (PCA) staff under the direction of the Nurse Manager. This role collaborates with the Nurse Manager on supervisions, performance reviews, IR reviews, timecards, hiring interviews, and other assigned duties. The Assistant Nurse Manager shares 24/7 staffing call with the Nurse Manager and, in collaboration with medical department leadership, supports the direction of nursing/PCA service programming and interdepartmental coordination of care. They also collaborate with 3.7 Residential (Wolfpack Program) staff to ensure smooth transitions for Wolfpack patients in the withdrawal management unit. The position ensures safe, quality care by adhering to medical policies and procedures and may support coverage for other Fora levels of care, including 3.7R (Wolfpack) and outpatient injections of long-acting MAT medications. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least one year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
  • For employees with a history of substance use disorder, certification of a minimum of two years of sobriety for this position is required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
  • Ability to pass DHS criminal background check.
  • Position will require some amount of regular connection to work via cell phone to answer questions and respond to internal and external contacts.

  • Certified Medical Assistant is a plus.
  • Registered Nursing License for State of Oregon is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Trains, leads, and supervises nursing and patient care assistant (PCA) staff.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager on supervisions, performance reviews, IR review, timecards, and hiring interviews.
  • Shares 24/7 staffing call with the Nurse Manager.
  • Supports direction of nursing/PCA service programming and interdepartmental coordination of care.
  • Collaborates with 3.7 Residential (Wolfpack Program) staff on the care of Wolfpack patients.
  • Ensures safe, quality care through adherence to medical policies and procedures.
  • Supports coverage for other Fora levels of care, including 3.7R (Wolfpack) and outpatient injections of long-acting MAT medications.
  • Follows medical policies and procedures for patients withdrawing from drugs and alcohol, including monitoring vital signs, performing lab testing, nursing assessments, transition planning, and medication administration.
  • Triage patient medical concerns and refers patients with medical needs to LMP.
  • Performs initial intakes, gathering and documenting medical & social history, patient needs and goals.
  • Monitors, interprets, and organizes medical paperwork, records, and lab results.
  • Interprets lab results and notifies LMP for critical values.
  • Maintains an accurate medication administration record and performs accurate medication reconciliation.
  • Maintains accurate count and storage of all controlled medications.
  • Informs patients of confidentiality rights and program procedures.
  • Protects patient rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with the treatment team and other agencies.
  • Explains the necessity for and process of referral to patients.
  • Collaborates and communicates issues/concerns with the treatment team regarding patient transitions.
  • Attends and participates in all treatment team meetings and supervision meetings.
  • Maintains and strengthens good working relationships with clinical team members and management.
  • Communicates and coordinates effectively with staff from other departments.
  • Models healthy styles of communication and behavior, using non-violent communication, verbal de-escalation, and demonstrating appropriate boundaries.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with patients.
  • Facilitates patients’ engagement in the treatment process using motivational enhancement techniques and nonviolent communication.
  • Provides education and support to patients regarding medical issues related to withdrawal, prescribed medications, and transition services.
  • Obtains consent for withdrawal management services.
  • Provides information and education on nursing care of patients with substance use disorders, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
  • Provides information on harms related to substance use, including transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS, TB, STDs, and other infectious diseases.
  • Adheres to the principles of trauma-informed care.
  • Understands basic evidence base behind medications to treat addiction.
  • Adheres to principles of harm reduction.
  • Demonstrates ethical behaviors by adhering to established professional codes of ethics.
  • Adheres to Federal and State laws and agency policies and procedures regarding the treatment of substance use disorders.
  • Recognizes the importance of individual differences that influence patient behavior.
  • Participates in ongoing supervision and consultation.
  • Practices appropriate self-care.
  • Adheres to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to Fora policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
  • Supports compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners’ and outside providers’ patient confidentiality agreements.
  • Maintains any licensure held at time of hire.
  • Provides schedule and staff coverage for withdrawal management program 24/7 within required staff: patient ratio.
  • Is available on call by phone or cell phone for consultation and to answer questions.
  • Monitors withdrawal management budget and ensures staffing and supply costs are within budget parameters.
  • Maintains expected withdrawal management census.
  • Ensures all withdrawal management staff documentation is accurate and timely.
  • Documents supervisory issues with staff.
  • Provides a consistent, comprehensive training program for new staff.
  • Ensures staff are timely on required trainings.
  • Provides leadership, support, and guidance for residential and withdrawal management staff.
