The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a participating member of the Nursing Leadership Team and provides leadership to professional nursing staff in assigned departments. The ANM works with other leaders to remove operational barriers, supports clinical and service programs, and helps develop and implement capital and operating budgets. The ANM applies nursing policies, procedures, regulations, leadership principles, and clinical judgment; contributes to nursing strategic direction and professional practice initiatives; and supports Professional Nursing Governance, including a Unit Practice Council for each unit within the role’s span of control. The ANM also helps maintain regulatory readiness and hospital accreditation and completes other assigned projects. The ANM coordinates patient-care teams, monitors care quality, rounds with patients and families, addresses concerns, and supports customer service. The role coaches and evaluates staff, supports competency and training requirements, coordinates with physicians and ancillary staff, manages work assignments and patient flow, and helps ensure compliance with policies, quality controls, and regulatory standards. Direct patient care may be provided as needed.
