Assistant Nurse Manager - Surgical Unit
About The Position
The Assistant Nurse Manager in the Surgical Unit partners directly with the Nurse Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of an inpatient care team. The position mentors registered nurses, coordinates complex care pathways, and helps foster an inclusive work environment. In partnership with the Nurse Manager, this role supports compassionate, evidence-based care for patients. The Inpatient Surgical Unit cares for adult and pediatric patients recovering from orthopedic, urological, thoracic, vascular, gynecological, ENT, and general surgery procedures. The team works alongside surgeons, physicians, and other interdisciplinary colleagues to provide patient-centered care through recovery and transition home.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- At least 3 years of relevant clinical registered nurse experience.
- Active Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Ability to resolve interdisciplinary conflicts.
- Ability to organize and delegate effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Nice To Haves
- Background in inpatient monitoring.
- Previous charge or leadership experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily unit workflows, optimize inpatient monitoring, and manage shift staffing levels.
- Serve as an expert clinical resource, provide clinical supervision, and ensure evidence-based competencies are met.
- Complete staff performance evaluations within 60 days of staff members’ anniversaries and coach nurses to support professional growth.
- Lead telemetry-specific Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives, provide clinical data for policy revisions, and assist with service budget preparation.
- Promote an inclusive environment in which diverse perspectives are valued and language and actions support workplace inclusivity.
