About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the delivery of quality health services to youth at a site or in a particular service and assists the Nurse Manager with administrative management of the health care services team. This role is also responsible for providing health care oversight and medical care management for an identified caseload of youth and includes performing all clinical functions of a Registered Nurse (RN). This a full-time (40 hours) position, primarily on a Monday-Friday day shift schedule, though with flexibility needed to be on the on-call rotation. This role is based on our Monroe Ave Campus in Rochester, NY.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Associate or Bachelor’s Degree Nursing Program required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Active, unrestricted RN license in NYS required.
  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training within 60 days of hire and recertification annually.
  • Ability to recognize signs of current and emerging health needs of children/youth and address issues proactively.
  • Effectively communicate with children/youth and families to assure appropriate understanding of treatment, issues, and objectives.
  • Possess and maintain accurate knowledge of all regulatory and practice regulations and treatment protocols with special attention to HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards for ethical and professional conduct at all times and towards all youth and families.
  • Proficiency with computer-based applications in order to independently complete work and add/use data.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of services provided both by the Agency and by external service providers and maintain contacts as needed in order to efficiently access care for clients.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality using resources efficiently and with the greatest effectiveness.
  • Possess sound judgment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflicts and resolve interpersonal disputes among staff members or between staff and patients/families in a constructive and diplomatic manner to promote a positive work environment and maintain patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to all federal, state, and local statutes, regulatory agency standards and Hillside policies including but not limited to Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS), Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), New York State Education Department NYSED), and Council on Accreditation (COA).
  • Attend admissions pre-placements to obtain medical/psychiatric history, establish health care needs, and complete prior authorization for medications or medical necessity based on recommendation from medical and psychiatric team.
  • Advocate on behalf of patients to establish appropriate health care.
  • Consult and coordinate with treatment team providers such as the treating physician, nurse practitioner, and clinician, as well as others to assess, plan, implement, and/or evaluate patient care plans while assuring continuity and quality of care.
  • Develop and deliver coordinated health services in accordance with professional practice as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Schedule staff and ensure staffing is maintained at all times to ensure medical needs of youth are met.
  • Provide nursing services, such as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being to youth admitted to assigned programs.
  • Review health care recommendations from youth’s physician with the treatment team and family to encourage family participation and implement follow-up care recommendations.
  • Provide information and education for treatment, residential, program coordinators, case management other agency staff, and youth for health service follow-up.
  • Document in each patient’s electronic clinical record all diagnostic assessments, individual plans of treatment, and treatment notes regarding recommended services and appropriate treatment, compliant with all regulatory mandates.
  • Monitor and respond to patient movement, including referral, admissions, health care and discharge and provide discharge summary establishing health care follow-up.
  • Maintain and adhere to ethics of confidentiality. Discuss confidential matters in an appropriate manner in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Function regularly as a preceptor for new staff and contract nursing staff as assigned.
  • Support process improvement initiatives in collaboration with leadership.
  • Provide direct administrative and clinical supervision to all assigned staff.
  • May support special projects or assume responsibility for an assigned role on the team (e.g., VFC, Connections, EMR Champion), as assigned.
  • Support and complete work as assigned as a member of the Health Care Services Management team.
  • Assume remote on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis as per facility guidelines, as assigned.
