In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations and provides direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises care provided by staff to ensure the delivery of safe and quality patient care on the unit and to ensure appropriate standards of professional nursing practice are maintained in the clinical setting. This role maintains high visibility to patients/families and staff on the unit, primarily on off-shifts, and resolves problems as needed. The position performs a variety of administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The role serves in a direct patient care role greater than 50% of the time. Prisma Health Richland Hospital's 7 East Surgical Trauma Unit is a regional academic medical center and hospital with over 125 years of service. It is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midlands. The 30-bed medical surgical unit primarily serves adult patients requiring care after traumatic injury typically needing surgical intervention. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring for up to 7 patients. Patients are hemodynamically stable and include those with injuries from various causes such as gunshot wounds, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls. Four rooms are designated as "Safety Suites" for the care of traumatic brain injury patients, featuring semi-private accommodations and close monitoring.
