In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations and provides direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of safe and quality patient care on the unit by supervising the care provided by staff and maintaining appropriate standards of professional nursing practice. This role requires high visibility to patients/families and staff on the unit, primarily on off-shifts, and involves resolving problems as needed. Additionally, the position performs a variety of administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The role involves serving in a direct patient care capacity greater than 50% of the time. Prisma Health Richland Hospital's 7 East Surgical Trauma Unit is a 30-bed medical-surgical unit primarily serving adult patients requiring care after traumatic injury typically needing surgical intervention. The unit is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midlands and is equipped with telemetry monitoring. Patients often have injuries from various causes such as gunshot wounds, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls. Four rooms are designated as 'Safety Suites' for the care of traumatic brain injury patients.
