About The Position

In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations while also providing direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of safe and quality patient care by supervising the care provided by staff and maintaining professional nursing practice standards. This position requires high visibility to patients, families, and staff, particularly during off-shifts, to resolve problems as needed. Responsibilities include a variety of administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The role involves direct patient care for more than 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of RN experience in a related area of nursing.
  • Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.

Nice To Haves

  • Management/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certified in nursing specialty preferred.
  • Team members working in Critical Care Transport are required to have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees patient care activities in a charge nurse capacity, including staff allocation and scheduling, patient assignments, rounds, investigation/resolution of patient care issues, coordination of admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring appropriate transitions of care, and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Provides direct patient care consistent with the charge nurse/clinical registered nurse job description accountabilities and maintains all clinical competencies.
  • Performs patient experience activities such as role modeling, staff mentoring/coaching, patient rounds, service recovery, and problem resolution.
  • Assists with continuing staff development, including clinical problem-solving and decision-making skills, and collaborates with clinical nurse educators for new staff orientation and training.
  • Maintains records and documentation pertaining to staff competencies, certification, and/or licensure, and serves as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.
  • Performs administrative and quality management activities to ensure quality expectations and regulatory requirements are met, including unit compliance with departmental, Prisma Health, safety, regulatory, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintains records and documentation pertaining to regulatory/environmental standards, quality audits, or other unit-related record-keeping requirements, and assists the Nurse Manager in preparing for Joint Commission visits.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to perform human resources activities, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, staff rounding, and performance management.
  • May assist with payroll processing.
  • Assists the Nurse Manager in maintaining the unit budget through appropriate allocation and utilization of unit resources.
  • Shares accountability with the Nurse Manager for unit/department/organizational goal achievement.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and evaluating short-term and long-term projects for the unit.
  • Develops, submits, implements, and evaluates performance objectives for self and the unit.
  • Works with health care team members on activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Participates in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
