About The Position

In collaboration with the nurse manager, this role supervises staff and unit operations while also providing direct patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of safe and quality patient care by supervising the staff and maintaining professional nursing practice standards. This position requires high visibility to patients, families, and staff, particularly during off-shifts, to resolve problems as needed. Responsibilities include administrative, human resource, payroll, quality improvement, and unit coordination activities. The role involves serving in a direct patient care capacity for more than 50% of the time. The Cardiac Telemetry unit is a 32-bed facility focused on providing comprehensive nursing care and telemetry monitoring for patients with cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure management, inpatient care, and post-hospitalization arrangements. Nursing care involves continuous EKG and oxygen saturation monitoring, administration of cardiac medications, and preparing patients for various procedures. RNs on this unit provide holistic care addressing the physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and their families.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Two (2) years of RN experience in a related area of nursing.
Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.

Nice To Haves

Management/supervisory experience preferred.
Certified in nursing specialty preferred.
A nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record (for Critical Care Transport roles, not specified for this role but listed under requirements).

Responsibilities

Oversees patient care activities in a charge nurse capacity to ensure safe and quality patient care.
Manages staff allocation and scheduling, patient assignments, and rounds.
Investigates and resolves patient care issues.
Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Ensures appropriate transitions of care between shifts and interdepartmental coordination.
Provides direct patient care consistent with the charge nurse/clinical registered nurse job description.
Maintains all clinical competencies.
Performs patient experience activities, including role modeling, staff mentoring/coaching, patient rounds, service recovery, and problem resolution.
Assists with continuing staff development, including clinical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Collaborates with clinical nurse educators to support new staff orientation and training.
Maintains records/documentation pertaining to staff competencies, certification, and/or licensure.
Serves as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.
Performs administrative and quality management activities to ensure quality expectations and regulatory requirements are met.
Ensures unit compliance with departmental, Prisma Health, safety, regulatory, environmental, and infection control standards.
Maintains records/documentation pertaining to regulatory/environmental standards, quality audits, or other unit-related record-keeping requirements.
Assists Nurse Manager in preparation for Joint Commission visits.
Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to perform human resources activities, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, staff rounding, and performance management.
May assist with payroll processing.
Assists the Nurse Manager in maintaining the unit budget through appropriate allocation and utilization of unit resources.
Shares accountability with the Nurse Manager for unit/department/organizational goal achievement.
Assists in planning, directing, and evaluating short-term and long-term projects for the unit.
Develops, submits, implements, and evaluates performance objectives for self and unit.
Works with healthcare team members on activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
Participates in Nursing and/or hospital committees and work groups as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
