Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and graduate of an accredited RN program
  • Minimum of 3 years psychiatric experience and 1 year in a leadership capacity
  • Completes mandatory educational requirements for position and maintains professional licenses and certifications
  • Seeks opportunities for professional self-development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 90 days of entering position

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring quality care by managing and leading the staff in a manner consistent with the plan of care, the mission and scope of service of Carrier, program policy and procedure and the regulatory standards of accreditation policies on their respective shifts.
  • Assuming administrative and clinical responsibility in the absence of the Vice President of Patient Care Services and other administrative personnel.
  • Monitoring and assuring patient care is provided within a safe and healing environment in the least restrictive manner.
  • Promoting a culture and environment of safety, respect, and trust for patients, families and staff.
  • Acting as liaison with Access staff on appropriateness of admissions and EMTALA compliance.
  • Directing and/or coordinating interventions necessitated by emergency situations, responsible for clinical and administrative supervision of nursing staff during the respective shift.
  • Obtaining emergency medications and supplies from Pharmacy night cabinet in the absence of pharmacist.
  • Assisting with chart reviews and audits to ensure compliance with regulation and standards per policies and procedures.
  • Supervising and maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic work/patient care environment.
  • Monitoring, investigating and providing feedback on all environmental and safety hazards per policies and procedures with relevant personnel.
  • Acting as an ombudsman for the hospital when responding to inquiries and crisis calls from patients, families, staff and community.
  • Initiating appropriate action and providing documentation for follow-up.
  • Reporting relevant concerns to the Administrator on call.
  • Resolving conflicts that may arise with patients, families, and staff in a diplomatic manner.
  • Providing direction and supports staff regarding ethical issues as raised by patients, their families and/or staff, including privacy and confidentiality of information.
  • Understanding and adhering to Joint Commission, CMS and State laws and regulations.
  • Understanding and adhering to organizations' health and safety requirements.
  • Understanding and adhering to organizations' and department's HR and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that staff have sufficient resources necessary to accomplish their objectives and fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Reviewing schedule on shift basis and making staff adjustments in relation to census and acuity levels.
  • Mentoring, coaching and motivating staff regarding performance and appropriate behaviors and conduct, in a timely and positive manner.
  • Setting the example concerning punctuality and presentation of a professional image.
  • Assigning priorities in tasks and delegating as appropriate.
  • Interviewing and selecting nursing staff as requested.
  • Analyzing staff training needs and ensuring that staff receives appropriate training, including new hire/ transfer orientation, in services, and computer training.
  • Demonstrating flexibility to meet staffing needs.
  • Encouraging and coaching staff concerning educational opportunities and their professional growth within the organization.
  • Assisting Staff Education to ensure that unit staff are 100% compliant with mandatory corporate training and completes required documentation when scheduled.
  • Ensuring that staff competency assessments and performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Encouraging workforce diversity.
  • Including staff in the decision-making and development of work processes.
  • Attending at least 3 NMC meetings per year.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhering to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
