About The Position

TelevisaUnivision Los Angeles is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and editorially driven Assistant News Director to help lead the station’s multiplatform news operation. This role is designed for a forward-thinking newsroom leader with a passion for impactful storytelling, breaking news, enterprise journalism, and audience engagement across linear, streaming, digital, and social platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong editorial thinker who thrives on developing compelling daily coverage while elevating the overall quality, creativity, and relevance of the newsroom’s storytelling. This leader will work closely with newsroom teams to shape coverage priorities, mentor content creators, strengthen multiplatform execution, and drive a culture centered on enterprise reporting, community connection, and innovative journalism. This position plays a key role in defining editorial strategy, identifying emerging audience trends, and helping evolve Univision Los Angeles’ content approach in one of the most competitive and diverse media markets in the country.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field OR equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in television news leadership roles such as Assistant News Director, Executive Producer, Senior Producer, or similar newsroom leadership positions.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a demonstrated passion for storytelling, breaking news, and enterprise journalism.
  • Experience leading multiplatform news coverage in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Deep understanding of audience behaviors across linear, streaming, digital, and social platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Nielsen ratings, audience trends, and content performance metrics.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop newsroom talent while fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide editorial decision-making under deadline pressure.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
  • Strong understanding of newsroom workflows, content systems, and emerging media trends.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as news coverage demands.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead the newsroom’s editorial vision and daily multiplatform content strategy across broadcast, streaming, digital, and social platforms.
  • Drive impactful storytelling with an emphasis on enterprise reporting, breaking news coverage, and community-focused journalism.
  • Lead editorial meetings and collaborate with newsroom teams to develop compelling daily and longform content.
  • Coach and mentor producers, reporters, anchors, assignment editors, and digital teams to elevate storytelling, writing, and production quality.
  • Identify innovative approaches to audience engagement and evolving news consumption habits across platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with content, streaming, and digital teams to maximize reach and strengthen cross-platform storytelling opportunities.
  • Help shape coverage priorities for major news events, special projects, investigations, and key ratings periods.
  • Monitor audience trends and performance metrics to inform editorial decisions and strengthen content strategy.
  • Champion creative production techniques, strong visual storytelling, and compelling live coverage.
  • Build strong relationships within the community to ensure meaningful representation and culturally relevant storytelling.
  • Support daily newsroom operations through thoughtful staffing coordination, schedule planning, overtime oversight, and vacation management to ensure seamless news coverage.
  • Support a collaborative, high-performing newsroom culture built on creativity, urgency, accountability, and journalistic excellence.
