About The Position

This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, direction, administration, and operation of the Motor Vehicles Customer Services Section within the Department of Revenue. This includes programs and functions such as licensing of motor vehicle operators, state identification credentials, motor vehicle registration, and motor vehicle title certification for the general public and automotive dealerships. The role also involves responsibility for the delivery of customer services in satellite offices, developing and implementing policies and procedures for new initiatives, and performing related work as required. The Assistant Motor Vehicle Administrator works under the administrative direction of a superior with considerable latitude for independent judgment, and their work is reviewed for conformance with departmental policies, objectives, and laws. The position plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the work of a subordinate staff engaged in carrying out a statewide motor vehicles customer services program.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of business administration and the ability to apply such knowledge in the administration and operation of a statewide motor vehicle customer services program.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles, practices, and procedures of state government.
  • Ability to interpret and apply state laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to the operation of a statewide motor vehicle customer services program.
  • Ability to evaluate present programs and functions and make recommendations for improvement, as well as develop new ones when necessary.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective public relations program between the agency and the public.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the work of a subordinate staff engaged in carrying out a statewide motor vehicles customer services program.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with superiors and subordinates, members of the community, representatives of government, officials of other state agencies, and the general public.
  • Graduation from a college of recognized standing with specialization in public or business administration, political science, or a closely related field.
  • Employment in a highly responsible supervisory position involving the application of the principles and practices of motor vehicle administration and customer services.
  • Any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
  • Successful applicant must pass a name-based and fingerprint-based criminal history check due to the Federal REAL ID Act.

Nice To Haves

  • A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques pertaining to the administration of DMV functions.
  • At a minimum, ten years work experience within the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordination, direction, administration, and operation of the Motor Vehicles Customer Services Section.

  • Evaluating present management and methods, procedures, programs, and functions for effectiveness and efficiency, and preparing future plans and budget allocations based on these evaluations.
  • Making recommendations regarding program planning and implementation, budget requirements, and staffing needs.
  • Assisting in personnel and labor relations matters as required.
  • Maintaining an effective public relations program to ensure understanding of the agency’s policies, functions, and objectives.
  • Reviewing existing laws, proposed legislation, rules, and regulations involving programs and functions and making recommendations.
  • Attending meetings and conferences involving federal, state, and local officials, professionals, and the public as required.
  • Ensuring the efficient use, maintenance, and protection of all physical facilities within the division and coordinating their use with sections.
  • Performing related work as required.
