Bull Moose Tube Company is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Mill Operator to work our 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. shift in our Chicago Heights, IL location. The successful candidate must have open availability to work other shifts as needed. Steel industry experience preferred. SUMMARY: Utilize tube forming equipment to produce ERW steel tubing. Oversee mill operation to ensure the highest quality tubing is achieved while adhering to safety and ISO standards. Perform complete and partial changeovers as orders dictate. Assure tubing is cut to proper length, tolerance end finish.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong verbal and math skills
  • Able to read shop floor computer schedules
  • Able to work overtime and/or various shifts
  • Able to work in an environment without climate control
  • Able to stand 8-12 hours per day

Nice To Haves

  • Steel industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate control panel on the Tube Cutoff to adjust parameters
  • Operate runout/dump table conveyor, and transfer conveyor
  • Set up and operate the de-dimpler on the tube mill to remove dimples from round tube ends as orders dictate
  • Monitor mill speeds and maintain shop floor orders
  • Check length tolerance using a tape measure
  • Inspect OD Scarf and other surfaces for defects to maintain the highest quality standards
  • Maintain tube straightness per ASTM 500 or 513 spec by adjusting the dual Turks-head stand or sizing stands
  • Maintain weld checks per ASTM 500 or 513 spec: Flare and Crush Tests using a hydraulic press
  • Perform changeovers to follow the mill tube size orders which include changing rolls in each roll stand of the mill and changing the cutoff die that is inside the cutoff press
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Work cooperatively with others to ensure constructive and productive business relationships
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures
  • Be able to understand and effectively use computerized TMS system
