About The Position

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division II institution, is seeking a motivated, energetic, and passionate Assistant Men’s Wrestling Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the Head Men’s Wrestling Coach. The assistant coach will aid in evaluating, recruiting, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes to excel both academically and athletically. Responsibilities include assisting with the organization of team practices, games, and budgets, adhering to the head coach's recruitment plan, and ensuring compliance with all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules and regulations. The role also involves administrative duties as directed by the head coach and Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Current and valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends throughout the year.
  • Commitment to working and teaching within an environment that embraces the development of students around their education, cultural diversity, mental health awareness, and NCAA and Conference Carolinas compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience preferred.
  • Prior coaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, recruit, coach, and mentor qualified student-athletes to prepare the team for a full intercollegiate varsity wrestling experience.
  • Execute the head coach’s recruitment plan to ensure a competitive roster.
  • Assist the head coach in creating a culture of compliance with all NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules and regulations, and ensure all student-athletes comply.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally for regular-season and post-season events, conference meetings, and fundraising, alumni, and community events.
  • Assist with student-athlete academic progress, provide consultation and support, and direct student-athletes to appropriate academic professionals.
  • Serve in an administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Serve on department and campus-wide committees as requested, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
