About The Position

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The assistant coach will work in coordination with the head coach in the operation of a NCAA Division II Men’s & Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Program. The role requires maintaining a thorough knowledge of, and adherence to all NCAA, G-MAC and institutional rules and regulations. Failure to comply may lead to suspension or termination. The position also involves attending all NCAA Compliance meetings, passing the NCAA recruiting examination annually, and being responsible for the actions of all assistant coaches, program staff, and the sport's compliance with NCAA rules. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences including eligibility, recruiting and certification.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate physical performance and mental capabilities related to the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and present a professional demeanor.
  • Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and be flexible, and the ability to work under occasional pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and diverse student population.
  • Ability to have vision and develop a plan for success.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to work without supervision and accomplish goals set forth by the administration and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in administering the intercollegiate program in compliance with the University, NCAA & G-MAC rules & regulations.
  • Recommend & administer specific sports budget.
  • Participate in the public relations & promotion of the sports program.
  • Consult with various campus agencies as to eligibility, admission of student athletes, facilities needed, security, & financial aid.
  • Consult with student athlete as related to discipline, academic progress, personal growth.
  • Coordinate plan for physical conditioning & practice preparation.
  • Oversee practice sessions, pre-meet preparations and competition.
  • Developing a strategy for coaching during meets.
  • Evaluate talent of prospective student athletes, organization of home visits & phone contacts with prospect and family.
  • Perform necessary duties in relationship to fund raising through the Oilers Club.
  • Assist with planning and organization all aspects of team travel.
  • Report any violations of compliance regulations.
  • Ability to coach the student athletes in game and practice situations.
  • Assist in organizing a team that is competitive and representative of the University’s philosophy and compatible with its mission.
  • Assisting with and planning of conditioning programs.
  • Assisting with the development of post-season and summer individual improvement programs.
  • Instruct assigned hours.
  • Meet recruiting goals.
  • Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position.
