About The Position

This role involves facilitating practice time, implementing drills and game plans, offering input on game strategies, and providing advice on specific plays or game tactics. The assistant coach will assist players in their learning process, track punctuality and participation, and help organize and administer the men’s lacrosse program according to departmental policies. Responsibilities include assisting with practice organization, travel arrangements, and recruiting efforts both on and off campus. The position also involves adhering to purchasing procedures, monitoring spending, and assisting in the development of student-athletes academically and athletically. The role requires adherence to budget management, compliance with University, NCAC Conference, and NCAA policies, and timely completion of all required paperwork. The assistant coach must exhibit enthusiasm, respect for the program, dress professionally, foster school spirit, and maintain appropriate relationships with student-athletes. Additional duties may be assigned by the Vice President of Athletics and head coach, with a commitment to the University Mission and Athletic Department Goals and Learning Outcomes.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate coaching experience or two (2) years successful coaching experience as head or assistant coach at the high school level or equivalent experience.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Maintain certifications in CPR and AED.
Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently.
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies.
Must understand and comply with NCAA, conference, and University rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Three (3) years of collegiate coaching experience as head or assistant coach.
Demonstrated ability to motivate students in a positive manner.
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effectively, teach fundamentals and techniques associated with the sport and experience with teams that are competitive and show evidence of being well coached.
Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership and to serve as a positive role model as a coach and colleague.
Successful prior participation in the sport at the high school, college or professional level.

Responsibilities

Follow all University, NCAC Conference and NCAA policies and regulations.
Meet all deadlines for paperwork (i.e. rosters, physicals, official’s ratings, etc.).
Exhibit enthusiasm towards athletes and display respect for the entire program.
Dress appropriately and professionally for games, practices, recruit/family visits and other school/athletic functions.
Foster school spirit by promoting other sports.
Maintain fair, consistent, and appropriate relationships with student athletes.
Demonstrate a commitment to University Mission and the Athletic Department Goals and Learning Outcomes.
