About The Position

The Assistant Medical Director is responsible for providing and overseeing the provision and supervision of professional care services of doctoral-level medical providers in a Patient-Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care. This role involves management of departmental staff, including performance management, hiring/firing recommendations, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. The Assistant Medical Director also assists in developing departmental budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing clinical protocols and guidelines. Additionally, the position requires direct provision of primary care medical services, meeting productivity expectations, and contributing to the overall strategic direction and goals of the organization.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Possesses specific advanced knowledge and skills, including written and verbal communication skills, computational, computer and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program with a recognized major or comparable experience.
  • Four years of leadership experience or 5 years of progressively greater responsibility or significant contributions to projects and initiatives that demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Extensive formal training in Medical Studies, including an understanding of the application of the theory and practices of Medicine learned during completion of an accredited medical school program.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, opinions and extrapolations of information collected and synthesized/analyzed.
  • Responsible for the resolution of conflicts that may arise between employees, between employees and customers/clients, or with the public, other legal entities or governmental authorities.
  • Compiles, analyzes and prepares information in an effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  • Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Regularly required to sit and use repetitive hand movement to type and grasp.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages action plans to support organizational strategic direction and goals.
  • Empowers staff through effective communication and talent building, delegating duties while ensuring department performance.
  • Assists with the development of the departmental budget and monitors expenses.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance for assigned departments and adherence to all workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures department/division managers and supervisors receive appropriate training and development.
  • Works with managers/supervisors to ensure necessary remediation for department employees.
  • Recommends workflow, policy, and procedure changes based on performance metrics, outcomes, and feedback.
  • Ensures department maintains compliance with all employee-related reporting and tracking.
  • Provides direct provision and supervision of professional care services of doctoral-level medical providers.
  • Implements clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Establishes goals and addresses site provider needs assessments.
  • Assists in professional staff recruitment activities.
  • Prepares orientation schedules for Doctoral level or mid-level staff members.
  • Ensures room assignments and scheduling for professional staff.
  • Provides input to Medical Directors on program design, implementation, and execution.
  • Provides direct provision of primary care medical services meeting all established productivity expectations.
  • Conducts examinations, reviews laboratory, referral, and imaging results to determine diagnoses.
  • Documents visits accurately, utilizing appropriate templates and recording relevant data.
  • Attains budgeted visits and meets clinical care measures.
  • Ensures records are locked within the 72-hour window.
  • Ensures teams meet the primary care needs of the communities served and the organization meets clinical goals.
  • Provides comprehensive, continuous, and coordinated medical care for acute and chronic illness at all ages within the context of the family unit.
  • Applies a holistic healthcare model focusing on protective and risk factors affecting patient health and wellbeing.
  • Manages chronic diseases and acute illness with broad knowledge in procedural skills, care coordination with specialists, and utilization of community resources.
  • Advocates for access to healthcare with a focus on structured evaluation, early intervention, and health promotion.
  • Consults with supervising physician or other team members on cases needing further input.
