Assistant Mechanic
About The Position
Greenwood County is seeking a self-motivated person for an entry-level Assistant Mechanic position with room for advancement. The position services and maintains landfill equipment, including bulldozers, compactors, scrapers, loaders, trucks, tractors, and other light- to heavy-construction equipment. It also completes accurate service and maintenance records and works under close supervision according to set procedures. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional Saturdays. The salary range is $31,690.22 to $47,535.32. Requirements
- High school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Six months of experience as a heavy-equipment mechanic, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
- Routinely refuels and lubricates landfill equipment.
- Cleans, repairs, and services equipment as needed.
- Completes metal fabrication, modifications, and repairs of collection boxes and equipment.
- Performs difficult repairs as needed.
- Assists with and operates equipment in other landfill areas as needed.
- Orders fuel, oil, and parts as needed.
- Assists members of the public at the landfill.
- Picks up landfill supplies as needed using a county purchasing card.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Completes accurate service and maintenance records.
