About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager actively participates in, trains, and mentors meat department crew members to enthusiastically demonstrate, educate, and sell fresh beef, pork, and poultry products. This role involves preparing meat products for sale by cutting, grinding, wrapping, and pricing them according to established department and company policies. The Assistant Meat Manager also assists with leadership duties, including planning and assigning work, conducting coaching sessions, administering discipline, providing training, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Daily team huddles are conducted to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations. The position also involves assisting with writing and placing orders, checking in deliveries, stocking and organizing storage areas, and writing daily plans and weekly work schedules. Responsibilities include ensuring merchandise rotation, maintaining displays to meet freshness guarantees, coordinating POS maintenance, and accurately recording damaged/spoiled merchandise. The role requires compliance with all food and workplace safety regulations, ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the work area and equipment, and acquiring product knowledge to assist guests. Staying updated on weekly specials and promotions is also key to creating a positive guest experience and fostering a collaborative work environment. The store operates seven days a week, potentially requiring weekend, holiday, and shift work.

Requirements

  • Required months of experience equal to journey-person level meat cutting.
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department including willingness to taste and evaluate beef, pork and poultry products.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives and other cutting equipment.
  • Strong work ethic with ability to follow instructions and procedures applying effective time management skills.
  • Math skills necessary, but not limited to: the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, follow recipes, completing sales transactions and calculating discounts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communicator with ability to professionally and courteously interact with guests, crew members, store management team, corporate sales managers and leadership.
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and detergents in order to clean and sanitize tools using without allergic reaction.
  • Ability to work around food ingredients, produce and spices without allergic reaction.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment.
  • Current State Food Handler’s Permit must be maintained.
  • Current county meat cutting license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares beef, pork and poultry for sale by cutting, grinding, wrapping and pricing products following established department and company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with leadership to meat department crew members including: planning and assigning work, coaching sessions and administering discipline when needed, providing training, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Conducts daily team huddles during each shift in order to communicate sales goals and to reinforce guest service expectations with all bakery department crew members.
  • Assists with writing and placing orders for all products and supplies.
  • Checks in order when load is received and dates, stocks and organizes all dry storage, freezers and coolers.
  • Assists with writing daily plans and weekly work schedules that anticipate the needs of the business.
  • Responsible for rotation of merchandise and maintenance of displays ensuring our products meet our freshness guarantee at all times.
  • Assists with the coordination of validation, item authorization, sign making and all meat department related POS maintenance.
  • Ensures that all displays are properly stocked.
  • Maintains accurate records for damaged/spoiled merchandise in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all food and workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area and equipment.
  • Works towards acquiring product knowledge within all departments in order to respond to guest questions and provide informative information about merchandise.
  • Stays updated on weekly specials, coupons and other company promotions that encourage an environment that delights our guests.
