About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the operations of the Meat department by assisting the Meat Manager with daily execution, team supervision, food safety compliance, merchandising standards, and inventory control. This role helps drive sales, maintain product quality and freshness, control shrink, and deliver excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Previous Meat department or fresh food retail experience required
  • Knowledge of meat cutting, food safety, and handling procedures
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in refrigerated environments
  • Ability to operate Meat department equipment safely
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Prior leadership, lead, or supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily Meat department operations, including production, stocking, case presentation, and rotation
  • Support supervision, training, and development of Meat department associates
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, handling, and temperature control standards
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory accuracy, and shrink control
  • Maintain proper cutting, wrapping, labeling, and markdown procedures
  • Help execute promotional plans, ad changes, and merchandising standards
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and department cleanliness at all times
  • Support scheduling, task delegation, and workload coverage to ensure operational efficiency
  • Provide excellent customer service, including answering product questions and handling special requests
  • Communicate department conditions, opportunities, and concerns to store and department leadership
  • Uphold safety standards and participate in store-wide safety and loss prevention initiatives
