About The Position

Partners with the Meat Manager to manage the department and staff, overseeing financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management. This is a management position responsible for providing leadership in line with company values and promoting a positive and progressive work environment aligned with the company's mission, vision, values, and policies.

Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand, and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
  • Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred.
  • Butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory, or other retail-specific software preferred.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales, and profit margin.

  • Ensures consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, and adherence to merchandising standards.
  • Partners with the department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, and trains staff to write orders and production schedules.
  • Ensures all Meat and Seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed to company standards.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations, highlighting featured items.
  • Partners with the department manager to plan for weekly ads, events, and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships and coordinates with Promotions department for in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition, and communicating issues to management.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wraps, weighs, and prices Meat and Seafood products according to department policy.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations.
  • Ensures department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Partners with the department manager to plan, lead, and analyze monthly perishable inventory.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor, sales, and margin goals and factors that influence them, working with the department manager to meet these goals and schedule accordingly.
  • Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Coaches the department to maintain appropriate, accurate, and organized inventory and back stock.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment, trains staff, and troubleshoots errors.
  • Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balances administrative tasks with presence on the floor.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
