About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for meeting store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, upholding the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual, and providing outstanding customer service while promoting merchandise. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports store asset management, personnel recruiting and training, sales and merchandising activities, inventory awareness, and administrative work. The position also helps guide employees and customers, monitors customer trends and inventory movement, and supports profitability across departments. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager supervises employees, including assigning and directing work, training staff, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling Hibbett I City Gear assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments when needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards described in operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal controls are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
