About The Position

Breckenridge Resort is seeking a highly engaged, hands-on Assistant Manager to lead our Grounds team and help deliver a world-class resort experience for our guests and employees. This role requires a visible field leader who spends time working alongside the team, inspecting conditions, identifying opportunities, and ensuring exceptional execution across all areas of responsibility. The Assistant Manager is accountable for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of resort grounds, employee pathways, waste and recycling programs, snow removal operations, landscaping, and seasonal projects. This leader will actively foster a culture of ownership, urgency, teamwork, and accountability, ensuring that every team member embraces the mindset that maintaining a world-class resort is everyone's responsibility. This position supervises a team of 5–7 Grounds team members and reports directly to the Transportation Manager. Work time is spent in the field, leading operations, coaching employees, and ensuring work is completed to the highest standards, among all assistant manager responsibilities of scheduling, time & labor, and budget oversight and ownership.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in grounds maintenance, resort operations, facilities, snow removal, public works, landscape operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams in fast-paced outdoor operational environments.
  • Strong commitment to delivering exceptional guest and employee experiences through attention to detail and operational excellence.
  • Proven ability to establish accountability and maintain high-performance standards across a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with scheduling, labor management, and workforce planning.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office applications, and work order or asset management systems.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding work when necessary.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating or overseeing the operation of snowplows, loaders, skid steers, or other heavy equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of 5–7 Grounds team members through active coaching, mentoring, performance management, and recognition.
  • Serve as a visible leader, supporting operations and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to world-class standards.
  • Conduct daily inspections of resort facilities, grounds, employee walkways, parking areas, and operational spaces to ensure cleanliness, safety, and appearance expectations are consistently met.
  • Oversee all recycling, trash collection, waste diversion, and sustainability initiatives throughout the resort.
  • Ensure employee pathways, walkways, service areas, and back-of-house locations are maintained to the same high standards as guest-facing areas.
  • Lead snow removal operations, including planning, coordination, equipment utilization, and quality control during winter operations.
  • Coordinate landscaping, grounds maintenance, irrigation, seasonal beautification projects, and summer setup/teardown activities.
  • Operate and oversee the safe operation of snow removal and heavy equipment as business needs require.
  • Promote a culture of accountability where team members proactively identify and address operational needs rather than waiting for direction.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure tasks are completed with a sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Oversee third-party janitorial and contracted services to ensure service levels align with resort expectations.
  • Manage supplies, equipment inventories, purchasing, and budget-related responsibilities.
  • Develop schedules and manage labor resources to meet operational requirements efficiently.
  • Support resort-wide sustainability goals through employee education, training, and operational initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, environmental standards, and safety regulations.
  • Respond to changing operational priorities and weather conditions while maintaining exceptional service levels.
