About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for achieving store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, and upholding the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The role also supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; guides employees and customers across departments; monitors inventory, sales statistics, and expenses; and helps protect company assets and financial information. The Assistant Manager supervises employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure department responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide assistance to customers, including during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
