About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards, and a commitment to customer service and merchandise promotion. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps oversee store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, and day-to-day department responsibilities. The role also includes providing guidance to employees and customers, maintaining customer-service standards, promoting merchandise and services, and supporting internal controls to protect company assets and financial information.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for store and department responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure department responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers upon entry and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards listed in its operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
