About The Position

The Assistant Manager will assist the General Manager (GM) in planning and implementing strategies to attract and retain members, ensuring a positive culture aligned with Excel Core Values. This role is accountable for the hiring process, including candidate selection, interviewing, and onboarding documentation. The Assistant Manager will train and develop new team members, ensure all staff maintain up-to-date certifications and training, and counsel and discipline team member performance. They will supervise, inspire, motivate, and coach staff to perform at their best. Additionally, this role supports the GM in monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), maintaining a clean and welcoming facility with world-class member service, performing daily club inspections, and entering work orders into the Computer Maintenance Management System. The Assistant Manager holds team members accountable for company standards, audits daily paperwork, resolves member issues, manages club inventory, and assists with marketing and promotional activities. They will also create club schedules, verify payroll items, ensure adherence to company policies, and report major infractions to HR. This position assists with conducting Team Player Assessments (TPAs) and competency evaluations, maintains availability for operational questions and emergencies, and is on call during peak seasons. The Assistant Manager oversees club operations and staff when the GM is unavailable and represents the company at community events. They also assist with conducting and leading team meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Proven ability to lead, encourage, develop, and supervise the work of others.
  • Familiar with Excel mission, values, vision, and culture, as well as the Planet Fitness brand and operational requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability, confidence, and leadership to manage a team.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Must be team oriented, motivated, and well organized.
  • Ability to think critically and evaluate solutions to problems proactively.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with sensitive and highly confidential information.
  • Basic understanding in Microsoft Excel and Word; DataTrak; Workday; Service Channel; and other related applications.

  • Uncertified Team Players will be given the opportunity to complete CPR/AED training within the first 30 days of employment.

  • Represent the company at community events and outreach activities.
  • Assist with conducting and leading regularly scheduled team meetings.
