About The Position

The Assistant Manager will assist the General Manager (GM) in planning and implementing strategies to attract and retain members, ensuring a positive culture aligned with Excel Core Values. This role is accountable for the hiring process, including candidate selection, interviewing, and onboarding. The Assistant Manager will train and develop new team members, ensure all team players stay up-to-date on certifications and training requirements, and counsel and discipline team member performance. They will supervise, inspire, motivate, and coach staff to perform at their best abilities, and support the GM in monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the club. Additionally, this role supports the GM in maintaining a clean facility with a great atmosphere and world-class member service, which includes performing daily club inspections, assigning cleaning tasks, and re-inspecting completed tasks. Entering work orders into the Computer Maintenance Management System to ensure facility and equipment are serviceable is also a key responsibility. The Assistant Manager will hold team players accountable for meeting company standards, audit daily paperwork, and resolve day-to-day member issues. Managing club inventory and communicating with the GM and HQ for necessary orders, assisting with marketing and promotional activities, and creating club schedules and verifying payroll items are also part of the role. Ensuring adherence to company policies and guidelines, addressing minor infractions, and reporting major infractions to the GM and HR for a formulated plan are crucial. The role involves auditing club inventory, communicating recommendations for orders, assisting with Team Player Assessments (TPAs) and competency evaluations, and maintaining availability off-shift for operational questions and emergencies. The Assistant Manager is required to be on call during peak season/sale expirations and will oversee club operations and staff when the GM is unavailable. Representing the company at community events and leading regularly scheduled team meetings are also expected.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Proven ability to lead, encourage, develop, and supervise the work of others.
  • Familiar with Excel mission, values, vision, and culture, as well as the Planet Fitness brand and operational requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability, confidence, and leadership to manage a team.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Must be team-oriented, motivated, and well organized.
  • Ability to think critically and evaluate solutions to problems proactively.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with sensitive and highly confidential information.
  • Basic understanding in Microsoft Excel and Word; DataTrak; Workday; Service Channel; and other related applications.
