About The Position

Assist store manager in managing retail store effectively to achieve sales goals and manage expense budget. This role involves direct supervision of employees and volunteers in the absence of the Store Manager, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; opening and closing of store; and daily manager on duty tasks in the absence of the store manager. The position requires a willingness and ability to work as a team member, as well as independently, and to embrace an empowerment and continuous improvement culture. The Assistant Manager is expected to offer suggestions and make decisions that will positively impact the store and foster business growth. They will also assist the store manager with equal opportunity employment efforts and preventing harassment, and conduct effective store meetings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience in retail operations preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.
  • Knowledge of cash register procedures, stock control, banking procedures, merchandising and display.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees in cashiering, banking, stock, and display.
  • Ability to supervise and train in shipping/receiving functions, stock duties, merchandising, cashiering and customer service at retail location.
  • Must maintain the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist store manager with managing budgeted sales and expense to revenue (E/R).
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively perform the duties of opening and closing the store as needed.
  • Perform banking procedures, including reconciliation of Daily Business Statements and deposit slips.
  • Train and supervise store employees in retail procedures.
  • Display and model excellent customer service.
  • Ensure store is maintained in accordance with company policies on housekeeping, safety and security.
  • Perform stocking, display, and inventory duties.
  • Perform merchandise ordering as assigned.
  • Complete reports accurately as assigned including donation counts, mark-downs, time cards, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash drawer.
  • Enforce retail sales and donation policy and procedures according to the retail procedures manual.
  • Perform sales functions of stock rotation, merchandising and display efficiently and productively.
  • Ensure retail quality control standards are met (textiles, misc., and furniture) and all employees are knowledgeable of the criteria.
  • Assist with scheduling of employees to achieve optimum staffing in accordance with budget.
  • Follow the dress code as set by Goodwill and set a professional example for employees.
  • Work a flexible schedule to comply with the needs of the store.
  • Display and encourage the ability to offer suggestions and make decisions that will positively impact the store and cause our business to grow.
  • Assist store manager with the responsibility of the equal opportunity employment efforts and results, and take action to prevent harassment of employees.
  • Provide own transportation and adequate liability insurance for such.
  • Assist store manager with conducting effective store meetings.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to work as a team member; demonstrate the ability to work independently.

  • Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards and ensure safety training throughout areas supervised and maintain same to meet CARF, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.
