About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and delivers outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports asset control, sales and merchandising activities, inventory and expense awareness, staffing, and department standards. The role also helps recruit, train, and evaluate personnel; guides employees and customers; monitors inventory movement and customer trends; and safeguards company assets and financial information through effective internal controls.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keeping up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability across departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide outstanding service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell the company’s services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards, including those in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by maintaining accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and carry out Store Manager responsibilities as trained.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
