Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is seeking an Assistant Manager, Surgery to support the day-to-day operations of a high-volume surgical department. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient surgical flow, exceptional patient care, and strong team collaboration. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
  • BSN required within 36 months of hire/transfer (if not already obtained)
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education
  • Active Florida RN license or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT certification
  • ACLS and/or PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of surgical experience (RN or Surgical Tech)
  • At least 1 year of leadership experience (Charge Nurse, Team Lead, Supervisor, or equivalent)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of surgical cases, ensuring high-quality care delivery, efficient patient flow, and effective collaboration across surgical services.
  • Coordinate daily surgical staffing and coverage to meet patient care needs.
  • Collaborate with surgical control desk, anesthesia, pre-op, and PACU teams to ensure efficient case flow and productivity.
  • Monitor surgical schedules and anticipate equipment, supply, and special case needs.
  • Partner with physicians to support implementation of new procedures, technology, and equipment.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with operating room policies and participation guidelines.
  • Monitor operating room utilization and surgeon block time to optimize efficiency.
  • Maintain surgeon information, including credentials and preference cards.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify current and future service line needs.
  • Maintain clinical competency, including circulator role proficiency as needed.
  • Identify and support equipment planning and replacement needs.
  • Participate in MEOC committees, supporting evaluation and standardization of surgical supplies.
