This role focuses on Competitive Intelligence (CI) and Patent Experience, requiring strong patent expertise with 5-7 years of experience, particularly in packaging. The Assistant Manager will be a functional expert, well-versed in patent search and analysis to gather scientific and competitive intelligence for consumer healthcare, generating solutions relevant to client's key intelligent questions. This involves conducting Intellectual Property research and analysis for identification, analysis, and reporting of project-relevant data to derive meaningful/actionable insights. Typical projects include market landscape, company profiling, novel product launches, competitor strategy analysis, and scientific literature analysis, with execution of both short turnaround and long-term projects.

Requirements

  • Masters in Pharma/Life Sciences/Medicine/ Biomedical engineering/ Allied fields, with relevant post-qualification experience in the patent, scientific, and/or business research space
  • 4-6 years for AM of post-qualification experience in patent research for Consumer Healthcare or pharmaceutical business research/KPO
  • M.Pharm/MSc/MBBS/BDS minimum qualification
  • 4 years minimum experience
  • Expertise in secondary research with experience in using databases and open sources
  • Clear understanding and exposure to OTC/Consumer/Pharma Healthcare space
  • Demonstrate clear acumen in competitive intelligence, scientific and business research
  • Proven strengths/clear aptitude in performing patent analysis and deriving competitor insights
  • Exposure to broad variety of work in the IP domain including (but not limited to): Identified key application areas of a given technology to help assess its patentability, Compared patent pending technology with competing technologies based on cost & ease of use, Analyzed scope of patents by understanding their claims & reviewing similar patents, Conducted search for relevant prior art to assess patentability of given technology, Conducted freedom to operate studies and prior art searches in the field of healthcare/ biotech/ electronics/ software
  • Demonstrated familiarity and strengths in performing information searches/addressing queries in Patent Databases such as Thomson Innovation, Questel (Orbit), Innography, STN database (CAPLUS, DERWENT), Micropatent, PatBase
  • Clear understanding and exposure to OTC/Consumer/Pharma Healthcare space, demonstrate clear acumen in competitive intelligence, scientific and business research
  • Report writing skills - creating reports that offer contextually relevant insights
  • Knowledge on MS Office (esp. PowerPoint and basic Excel) and Internet searching skills are mandatory
  • Ownership / accountability
  • Flexibility to work on cross-team projects across all domains skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in packaging
  • Awareness of market landscape, current developments, leading players, clinical research and products
  • Understanding of the regulatory climate relevant to OTC/Rx space esp. in US/Europe
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools incl. charts and graphs, smart arts etc
  • Exposure to scouting projects or experience in identifying key partners/collaborators for product development

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Intellectual property research and analysis efforts for identification, analysis and reporting of project-relevant data to derive meaningful/actionable insights

  • Perform comprehensive patent searches using various databases (PatBase, Thomson Innovation, Questel (Orbit), Innography, STN database (CAPLUS, DERWENT), Micropatent, etc.)
  • Effectively retrieve information by identifying relevant data sources, formulating efficient search strategies, critically evaluating information, and organizing data for analysis
  • Assess the validity of sources, accuracy of information gathered, data gaps, and steps to plug in data gaps
  • Ensure quality and presentation of reports with well-structured and formatted content, correct usage of English language, appropriate templates, and audience-appropriate representations
  • Offer contextually relevant insights in the Patent domain
  • Liaise with IT experts to accelerate development with automation and advancements in the IP domain
