This role supervises and coordinates the activities of employees, ensuring that customer needs are met. The Assistant Manager is accountable to the District Store Director and Store Manager, and supervises all positions except those otherwise designated. The role requires a positive attitude, fostering an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork. It involves providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, learning customer names, and assisting them with their needs. The Assistant Manager is responsible for upholding Hy-Vee's core values, including honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring for customers and employees. This position also oversees employee training, handles employee issues, and coordinates disciplinary procedures. Additionally, the Assistant Manager assists management in determining pricing, promotional displays, product quality, and departmental profitability. They ensure compliance with accounting procedures, oversee building maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness, and are proficient with store technology. Forecasting and reviewing labor schedules, evaluating employee performance, and training on safety procedures are also key responsibilities. The role directs merchandise ordering, ensures compliance with policies and laws, and assists with replenishing shelves and constructing displays. Problem-solving for employees regarding job duties and policies is essential, as is adhering to company policies and store guidelines. Secondary duties include determining employee motivational needs, recruiting and interviewing applicants, staying current with market trends, and providing continuous education for employees. The Assistant Manager may also recommend merchandise additions/deletions, pursue retail educational opportunities, assist in all store areas as needed, and work with department heads on various operational aspects. They may also sell merchandise to employees, handle cash registers, and perform other related duties.
