About The Position

The Assistant Manager I helps oversee store operations, customer service, and team development. The role supports the Store Manager with daily store activities, merchandise handling, store presentation, record keeping, loss prevention, and adherence to company policies and safety procedures. The position also helps supervise, train, and develop Store Associates and promotes a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and employees. The role includes maintaining store cleanliness and presentation, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, and removing trash. Other duties may be assigned. Managers at stores selling alcohol and/or tobacco may be required by local jurisdictions to provide background information and qualify for the relevant license; failure to do so may result in demotion or separation. Employment is at-will, and the job description may be modified to meet business needs.

Requirements

Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives, such as merchandise schematics.
Ability to lift up to 55 pounds from floor to above shoulder height.
Ability to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Store management experience in a retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address their questions or concerns.
Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery trucks to the stockroom and sales floor as needed, and maintain seasonal areas.
Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
Process corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and other store-related communications.
Maintain the promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays.
Assist with merchandise ordering, damaged merchandise processing, record keeping (including payroll, scheduling, and cash register deposits and receipts), and loss prevention.
Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
Protect and secure company assets, including store cash.
Follow company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines, and ensure store associates follow them.
Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment and professional, friendly interactions with customers, associates, and leaders.
Maintain store cleanliness, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, taking out trash, and keeping areas neat and presentable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Provide required background information and qualify for local alcohol and/or tobacco licenses when applicable.
