About The Position

The Assistant Manager I supports the Store Manager with store operations, customer service, and team development. The role helps maintain store standards, merchandise presentation, inventory and records, safety, asset protection, and a positive environment for customers and associates. Duties may include additional related responsibilities as assigned. Managers may be required by local jurisdiction to provide background information and qualify for specialized licenses for stores selling alcohol or tobacco; failure to comply or qualify may lead to demotion or separation of employment.

Requirements

Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives, such as merchandise schematics.
Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to above shoulder height and meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Store management experience in a retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address their questions or concerns.
Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery trucks to the stockroom and sales floor as needed, and maintain seasonal areas.
Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
Process corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and other communications related to store activities.
Maintain the promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays.
Assist with ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping—including payroll, scheduling, and cash register deposits and receipts—and loss prevention.
Maintain store areas to company standards, including a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom.
Protect and secure company assets, including store cash.
Follow policies and procedures, including safety guidelines, and ensure store associates follow company policies and procedures.
Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment and professional, friendly interactions with customers, associates, and leaders.
Maintain store cleanliness, including cleaning and restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, taking out trash, and keeping all areas neat and presentable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Provide detailed background information and obtain required local licenses for stores selling alcohol and/or tobacco, if required by the jurisdiction.
