About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home supervises and coordinates the activities of employees within the General Department. This role is responsible for ensuring customer needs are met while upholding the Hy-Vee culture of honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring. The position involves training employees, handling employee issues, coordinating disciplinary procedures, and assisting management with pricing, promotional displays, and product quality. The Assistant Manager also oversees building maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness, and ensures compliance with store accounting procedures. They are responsible for evaluating employee performance, training safety procedures, and directing merchandise ordering. Additionally, this role involves replenishing shelf product, constructing displays, solving problems affecting job duties, and adhering to company policies. The Assistant Manager also assists in recruiting and interviewing applicants, stays current with market trends, and provides continuous education to employees. They may also handle cash registers and perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+.
  • High School or equivalent experience.
  • One year or more of retail experience.
  • Experience performing the duties of an Assistant Manager.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interview to obtain basic information.
  • Ability to guide people and provide basic direction.
  • Ability to follow technical manuals.
  • Increased contact with people.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of employees.

  • Evaluates employee performance to recommend personnel actions.
  • Trains and enforces safety procedures.
  • Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries.
  • Directs the ordering of merchandise in their respective areas.
  • Coordinates compliance of employees with established policy/law, security, sales, and record keeping procedures.
  • Assists with replenishing shelf product, designs and constructs displays.
  • Confers with employees and assists in solving problems affecting job duties, productivity, and policies.
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.
  • Determines the motivational needs of employees and provides the appropriate environment.

  • Provides continuous education for existing store employees.
  • Recommends additions, deletions and shelf allocation of merchandise.

  • Assists in all areas of the store as needed.
  • Works with department heads regarding schedules, labor issues, product purchasing, and merchandising.
  • Sells merchandise to company employees, customers or issues merchandise upon requisition.
  • Handles cash registers.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
